Saves are an interesting category. Despite the reliability of some of the elite closers in the game, they aren’t drafted until the fifth or sixth round at the earliest in typical drafts. Their contribution is minimal, compared to starters, and beyond the first few, there is a lot of turnover at that position. For that reason, some owners will stock pile closers and be more active in acquiring them throughout the season.
Because saves are cheap, and you can typically find them on the waiver wire if you’re active and smart, it’s important not to reach for closers. It’s also important to remember that they are volatile and even some of the best closers get replaced. Nonetheless, you can’t punt the category. Try to find the best values later in the draft and be active on the wire.
